INSPIRATION *MOTIVON COLLECTION*

The “Motivon” Collection F / W 2020-2021

The forecoming Fall/Winter season is all about motifs and we state this clearly by naming our new collection “Motivon”; which means pattern in Modern Greek. Our main inspiration derives from Ancient Greece and especially the arts of pottery and architecture.

In the ceramic containers of that time, called “amphorae” (/ˈæmfərə/; Ancient Greek: ἀμφορεύς, amphoreús;) one can see specific repeated decorating designs such as ocean-themed waves and the geometrical elements of “meanders” (Greek: Μαίανδρος, maiandros), symbolizing infinity and unity.

Looking up at the architectural friezes of temples and grand houses of that era, more often than not one could easily observe the distinctive “akrokeramon”, the antefix at the end of the roof used to safeguard the roof tiles. It was decorated with an anthemion ornament such as an acanthus leaf, a typical Athenian flower still growing at the foothills of the Acropolis rock.

Culture may come from one specific place on earth or in time, but it belongs to us all.
