INSPIRATION *CYCLADICON COLLECTION*
This summer join The Melittans to a trip to Ancient Greece and the Cyclades!
Inspiration was sought in objects of everyday life, such as the amphora [(/ˈæmfərə/; Ancient Greek: ἀμφορεύς, amphoreús;)] a type of ceramic vase with handles on each side, used for the transport and storage of various products , like oil and wine.
Each amphora was decorated with elaborate scenes from daily life, making them beautiful but also artifacts with significant historic value, fully appreciated by our creative team. However, there is something about the islands that we couldn’t ignore!
The Cycladic marble figures or «ειδώλια» (idolia) , one of the most iconic symbols of Ancient Greek civilization, go back almost 5.000 years . Most of these figurines were female and commonly used during burial practices. Their distinctive minimal and geometric style makes them unique and timeless, a perfect print for our ‘Cycladicon’ collection.
Combining the old with the new, the ‘Cycladicon’ collection is a blend of ancient lines with the modern colors of Greek painter Nikos Egonopoulos (1907-1985), bringing two times and two worlds together.
We hope you will enjoy it.
Lots of Love,
The Melittans xxx
